Laying Low
kinda..

In the aftermath of Arael’s rescue (and the slaughter of an entire regiment of Hellknight armigers), a notable discovery is made in the form of a letter from Westcrown’s mayor requesting the Order of the Rack’s help in dispatching a mysterious group referred to as the Bastards of Erebus. Arael takes the letter back to the group’s safehouse at the disused shrine to Arodenfor further research, suggesting that the others lay low for a while.

The party is all-too-happy to oblige this request, and re-enters the city through the ruined northern portion, stopping by Gorvio’s uncle Jacovo’s place to return their borrowed horses.

The Rebel Hideout
and A Dramatic Rescue

Upon exiting the sewers, our unlikely heroes find themselves in an out-of-the-way alley behind a condemned Shrine of Aroden that apparently now serves as a secret safe house for Arael and Janiven’s rebel group. After providing food and a chance to clean up, Janiven introduces the party to several members of her group who are present at the time. One member in particular, a young man named Gorvio, takes a particular shine to Fortunato. The party members join a discussion aimed at choosing a name for the loosely-organized band. On Draco’s suggestion, the group decides to take the name ‘Eyes of Aroden’, as well as deciding to disguise themselves with party masks when acting in public. Overall, the party receives a warm welcome from the rebels, but pleasantries are put on hold when word arrives about the fate of Arael. It seems Arael has been captured by the Order of the Rack, and is due to be transferred to the Order’s Citadel a short distance outside the city at dawn. This leaves the newly-named Eyes of Aroden only a few hours to stage an attempt for Arael’s rescue . Draco devises what proves to be an efficient plan involving the party, Janiven, and 10 other members of the Eyes. The Order of the Rack’s entire honor guard of armigers were put to the sword, and a badly beaten but otherwise-unharmed Arael was successfully rescued.

The Beginning
The Stirrings of Rebellion

A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct. To begin your study of the life of these heroes, then take care that you first place them in their time: their story begins in the year 4708, the 68th year of the reign of the dread House Thrune in Cheliax, then ruled by Her Infernal Majestrix, Queen Abrogail II. And take the most special care that you place them in their place: the nation of Cheliax.

The party is approached at their residence at the Korradath by a Chelaxian woman named Janiven, who implores them to meet with her to discuss organizing a group to make Westcrown “a safer place to live”. After Bell and Amarante’s scouting out of the proposed meeting place, a rather shabby-looking tavern, our unlikely heroes show up to find only a nervous Janiven. It seems their mysterious host is missing. Before long, a frightened boy turns up, reporting that their host, apparently an elf by the name of Arael, has been captured by the Hellknight Order of the Rack! Before they can leave, they find that their meeting place has been surrounded by armigers of this same Hellknight order.

Finding themselves with few options, the party follows Janiven and Morosino into a hidden entrance into Westcrown’s maze-like sewers. A heated chase ensues as the Order of the Rack’s armigers give pursuit. Led by a Hellknight of Order of the Rack, the armigers hound the party as they try to make it through the sewers to a “safe house” known by Janiven. They eventually find the correct exit from the sewers, after a bloody battle with the Order of the Rack that very nearly claimed the lives of both Amarante and Fortunato.
